  There are a string of markets taking place pretty much every day of the week along the Spanish Costa Brava from Lloret de Mar to Blanes. I much prefer to shop at these marketplaces rather than the big supermarkets, where often the fruit and veg isn’t fresh or cheap. The markets are also a great place to pick up cheap souvenirs including pretty Spanish ceramics, locally made leather shoes, and jewellery. Don’t be scared to barter either on these items. You’ll often find the price will be dropped if you negotiate a little�

• Lloret de Mar - the perfect package holiday

  Lloret de Mar is unashamedly a great escape for the perfect package holiday. The beach here is what defines the Costa Brava. It’s where the Mediterranean waves lap gently onto the soft golden sands. Although it’s a very different from the sleepy village that was Lloret de Mar some 40 years ago, it’s evolved into the type of resort that is enormously popular with families. But that’s not to say culture vultures can’t be kept happy here. Close to the town are ancient monasteries and secluded Catalan hill towns to explore�
